FORT WORTH, Texas — Officials at Sundance Square are pleading with a woman captured on security cameras stealing a handmade ornament from the iconic Christmas tree to return it with no questions asked.
The ornament, created by first-time featured artist Arely Morales, was taken at about 1 a.m. Sunday. Security footage shows the woman pulling down the decoration before smiling and running toward a waiting getaway driver.
"My inspiration for it was my Mexican heritage," Morales said. "This cat in particular was inspired by a cat that I had and passed away two years ago."
The theft has left both the artist and Sundance Square officials heartbroken as they prepare for the tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 2.
