The Santa Ynez boys basketball team hasn’t had the best luck against Mission Prep.
The Pirates have lost the last six meetings dating back to 2012.
But every cloud has a silver lining.
The Royals defeated the Pirates in their season opener 81-55 in San Luis Obispo but Santa Ynez coach Rod Caughell said it was a good test to see where they are.
“I like where we are at but we need to play more cohesively and come together as a team” Caughell said. “This game really set a bar and it was a wakeup call.”
Mission Prep (1-0) didn’t waste any time coming out of the gates quickly.
Jackson Esparza, Blake Boudreau and Hunter Drake hit a trio of 3-pointers and the Royals held a 19-5 lead.
