BOTETOURT COUNTY , Va. (WDBJ) - The future of the Orchard lake Dam was discussed at the Board of Supervisors meeting.

Three proposals were received for engineering services after residents asked the county to explore options other than breaching the dam.

The intention is to hire an engineering firm to conduct an assessment of options and submit a report to the county.

The assessment will include inspections and testing of the current condition of the dam.

Residents had the opportunity to speak about the process.

“We’ve been asking at every meeting if we could please get the dam hazard rated. Why are we not being given that same opportunity?” one resident said.

The board approved the three recommended companies and will begin negotiations to determine which they will choose to perform
