BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - At Tuesday’s Botetourt County Board of Supervisors meeting, it was announced Aqua Virginia, who serves residents in the Blue Ridge and Valley areas of the county, was looking to raise their overall water rates by 26 percent.
This means county customers could expect a 33 percent increase.
“33% is exorbitant and we’ve identified some places where we think that they can either design their rates more fairly or where they could potentially lower their costs,” Mike Lockaby said.
In a statement from Aqua Virginia, they explain why they are wanting to increase the rate saying quote “we must continue to modernize and upgrade our treatment plants, wells, pipelines, and related infrastructure.”
