MADISON, Conn. (WFSB) - Connecticut residents are hitting the roads in large numbers this Thanksgiving, with AAA estimating nearly 775,000 people traveling across the state.
Traffic is expected to peak Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m., as families and friends head home or gather for pre-holiday celebrations.
State officials say the night before Thanksgiving is one of the most dangerous on the roads, especially when alcohol is involved.
Over the last four years, there were 83 crashes during the holiday caused by impaired drivers, some of them deadly.
The Department of Transportation encourages people to intervene if they see a friend trying to drive while impaired.
