Knives and other weapons were used in 522 recorded crimes in South Lanarkshire from October 2024 to September 2025 – a rise of 15 per cent in just one year.
Total weapon-related crimes rose from 758 incidents to 799, an increase of over 5%.
Over same period the number of rapes and sexual assaults rose, and the number of murders almost doubled.
Joani Reid, Scottish Labour MP for East Kilbride and Strathaven, called for much tougher action to tackle the rise in these most serious of crimes.
