A long-awaited secondary school in Brantford appears to be one step closer to welcoming students.

On Monday, just west of Park Road, the north side of Powerline Road was abuzz with activity.

A trailer, excavator, and industrial green PVC pipes could be seen from the road, as trucks filed in and out of a fenced entrance.

A Guelph company, Tambro Construction, was awarded the contract for just over $55 million in October, according to the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board (BHNCDSB) bids and tenders page.

The board did not immediately respond to requests for information about the construction.

Tambro has been involved in multiple school projects in the area, including St. Patrick Catholic School and Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School in Hamilton, according to its
