Fargo girl, 13, dies after collapsing during school basketball game

FARGO — A Fargo family and school community are mourning the sudden loss of a young student.

Jemimah Audu, 13, an eighth grader at Discovery Middle School, collapsed Friday, Nov. 21, during a basketball game at the school, according to a GoFundMe account set up for her family.

She was rushed to Sanford Medical Center, where she died, the account stated.

A Fargo Public Schools spokesperson said Discovery is staffed with additional counselors and mental health professionals to support students and staff in the wake of the girl’s death.

The account describes Jemimah’s family and friends as being “shattered and heartbroken.”

Her parents, Johnny and Sarah Cox, thanked first responders and staff in the Sanford emergency room “who tried so hard to revive her.”
