Over 400 years ago, in 1621 to be exact, a group of English settlers in Plymouth Colony shared a harvest feast with the native Wampanoag people. This gathering is considered by many to be the first Thanksgiving, a celebration of a successful harvest after a very difficult year. Many cultures celebrated harvest festivals, going back to ancient times. Without a successful harvest, the future would be bleak. So when the crops grew, and there was enough for the colder months ahead, there would be cause for celebration. This crossed over many cultures and civilizations throughout history.
