The South Carolina Children’s Theatre is bringing back “Annie,” the perennially popular musical about the plucky pint-sized heroine who never stops believing in the power of “Tomorrow.”
The 1976 musical, a favorite of regional and community theaters, centers on the spunky and optimistic 11-year-old orphan Annie who is looking for her birth parents. Along the way, she not only finds a family but also helps to save the nation struggling through the height of the Great Depression at Christmastime.
“It’s a story about resilience, family and sticking together,” said Ahsha Daniels, who is directing the show.
The production, running Dec. 5-21, spotlights a local cast of 30, with more than half of the cast either children or teens. S.C. Children’s Theatre last performed the musical in 2021.
