A youth football coach has been permanently banned after sending a message containing a list of cocaine prices to a group chat intended for discussing children's match timings. The incident occurred within the Fonacab Development League in Belfast, which caters to children aged eight and under. The league described the message as "disgusting" and took immediate action upon learning of its circulation. Child protection officers have been notified, and the coach has been removed from all league activities. A spokesperson for the Fonacab League stated, "A coach from a club has posted that message that is going about. As a league, that coach was removed straight away. The coach's club were informed straight away along with the child protection officers. The coach is now not welcome at any of the Fonacab League venues, and this is non-negotiable for us." The league emphasised its commitment to safeguarding and professionalism, stating, "As a League, we cannot monitor or control every message shared between coaches when organising fixtures or availability. However, we do have clear expectations of behaviour, and any conduct that breaches safeguarding or professionalism will be addressed immediately." They further added, "Our responsibility is to protect the wellbeing of every child and uphold the values the League is built on. Thank you to the many coaches who consistently meet those expectations." This incident has raised concerns about the conduct of individuals involved in youth sports, highlighting the importance of maintaining a safe environment for children. The league's swift response underscores its dedication to child protection and the integrity of youth sports in the community.
