Jobs have been lost at an Edinburgh timber company which has fallen into administration. National Timber Group appointed administrators on Wednesday, and will close six sites in Scotland.

Among them is the Thornbridge Timber branch in Hawkhill in the capital. The Dumbarton, Forfar, Newton Stewart, Anniesland and Stirling locations will also close with immediate effect.

With 169 jobs lost in Scotland, 561 roles have been lost across the UK. With 47 locations across the UK - including sites in the capital, Newcastle, Sunderland, Leeds, Northallerton, Hull, Manchester and Bristol - National Timber Group is the UK's largest independent timber distribution and processing group.
