CHICAGO, Ill. — A Chicago man was arrested for making threats to a local politician.
On Tuesday, Illinois State Police announced they had arrested 59-year-old Joseph Haggerty of Chicago on charges of threatening an Illinois State Senator.
On Sept. 2, ISP were contacted by State Senator Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) about threats he had received from Haggerty to his government email address.
The threats were sent the same day Chesney participated in a press conference focusing on immigration issues and President Trump's proposed National Guard deployment to Chicago.
On Nov. 24, after an ISP investigation, the Stephenson County State's Attorney's Office charged Haggerty with two counts of threatening a public official and issued a warrant for his arrest.
