President Donald Trump’s directive to congressional Republicans to vote to release the Epstein files was not about transparency. It was because of a breach in the support by Republicans such as Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, who supported the release, and the obvious perception problem that congressional Republicans would suffer if they voted to protect pedophiles.
Transparency is not in Trump’s dictionary. For example, after Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia was recently asked at the White House about the brutal killing of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the prince smirked and Trump, whose family has greatly benefited financially from Saudi Arabia, intervened on Khashoggi’s behalf.
