CLEVELAND, Ohio — WinterLand, Cleveland’s downtown celebration that kicks off the holiday season Saturday, is requiring new, tighter security that will force children under 18 to be accompanied by an adult.

It will also have five entry points for those attending. The new measures seek to make the event safe and enjoyable, two years after a shooting took place following the event.

The festival begins at noon at Public Square, with events throughout the day. Instead of a single lighting countdown that drew tens of thousands of people at once, the new IlluminateCLE light show will debut at 5:30 p.m. and repeat every 30 minutes through 11 p.m.
