CLEVELAND — With the holidays approaching — and a winter storm expected on Thanksgiving — Cleveland firefighters say they typically see an uptick in calls.

Cleveland Division of Fire Public Information Officer Lt. Mike Norman says Thanksgiving and Christmas consistently lead to more cooking-related fires and burn injuries.

So far this year, Cleveland has recorded 16 fatal fires — the most the city has seen since 2006. Norman says many of those deaths could have been prevented with working smoke alarms.
