WASHINGTON — Secretary of War Pete Hegseth announced on Wednesday that he plans to deploy 500 additional National Guard members in D.C. in the wake of a shooting in which two soldiers were shot .
The soldiers were shot near the Farragut West Metro Station on Wednesday evening.
West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey initially said that both soldiers were killed, but he would later say they were receiving “conflicting reports” regarding their condition. Multiple officials, including DC Police and FBI officials, later indicated that the soldiers were in critical condition.
The suspect was injured during the incident and taken into custody.
