WASHINGTON — Confusion and calls for prayer from West Virginia politicians on Wednesday after two state National Guard members were shot while deployed near the White House in Washington, D.C.
At around 4:45 p.m., FBI Director Kash Patel said that the shooting victims were in "critical condition."
Patel's statement comes just over an hour after West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey said the two National Guard members had been killed. Morrisey went on to amend his statement, saying there were "conflicting reports" about the soldiers' conditions.
During Patel's press conference, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser said the two National Guard members were, in fact, alive and in a hospital in the District.
