Repealing blanket rezoning could put $129 million in federal funding to support Calgary’s housing strategy at risk, according to an internal memo sent to councillors after a meeting with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

The correspondence from last week suggests the money earmarked for Calgary through the federal government’s housing accelerator fund (HAF) program has been “paused” by the CMHC, which administers the grant program, “pending further clarity on the status of citywide rezoning.”

If that clarity isn’t reached by the end of March 2026, a third instalment of $64 million would be relinquished, the memo states.
