BLACKSBURG, Va. (WDBJ) - Over three weeks after Election Day, the race for Blacksburg’s next mayor is ongoing.
Challenger Pete Macedo filed for a recount against Michael Sutphin after losing the election by just 18 votes.
During the recount preliminary hearing, a Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge set the official recount date for Friday, December 12.
The recount process will require thousands of ballots to be fed back through machines or hand-counted to record only the votes for Blacksburg’s mayor.
The court is overseeing the presidings along with the State Board and Montgomery County Election Board.
After all ballots are recounted, the court will certify those numbers and name the winner.
