NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — The death of 16-year-old Violet Gustafson has intensified calls for safer pedestrian crossings along Lorain Road in North Ridgeville, including a petition urging the city to install a crosswalk at the site where she was struck and killed by a car on Nov. 17.
The Violet’s Crosswalk (Violet’s Way ) petition on change.org argues that the lack of a marked crossing at the intersection of Lorain Road and Lear Nagle Road has created a dangerous environment for workers, students and visitors who routinely travel on foot between restaurants, shops and a nearby motel.
The petition has gathered more than 5,000 verified signatures as of Wednesday morning, with many signers describing years of near misses, speeding drivers and limited lighting.
