LOS ANGELES - Food Network personality Guy Fieri is recovering after undergoing emergency surgery for a serious leg injury suffered on the set of his latest television project.

The 57-year-old chef said he slipped earlier this month while walking down a set of stairs, landing in an awkward split that caused a rare tear in the middle of his quadriceps muscle — an area doctors told him is not typically prone to that kind of injury.

Fieri was filming an episode of “Flavortown Food Fight” when the accident occurred. He said surgeons operated quickly to repair the damage, noting that the muscle had to be reattached before it began to recede, which could have significantly complicated his recovery.
