While hunting in Moraine State Park on Saturday, Nate Miller was surprised to find he had taken down the largest black bear in Pennsylvania at more than 700 pounds near the end of bear season.

When he walked up to it, Miller was shocked by the bear’s size and called his brother and three friends, who helped drag the bruin more than 600 yards to his vehicle.

“It wasn’t until some more experienced hunters came to help me out that they told me it was more than 600 pounds,” said Mr. Miller, 38, of Rochester, Beaver County.

The bear was so huge that the men called the park administration, which sent four park rangers with an ATV to help.

“We were trying to carry it, but there was no way to carry it,” Mr. Miller said.
