CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - The holidays are a time for indulging in sweet treats, and many people are finding ways to buy those desserts close to home.

Year-round, bakers are up early, working at the crack of dawn. But this time of year, local bakers say high demand has them working overtime--and the holiday season starts well before the calendar says it does.

“I think yesterday we were here for a total of about 18 hours, which we’ll get to rest at the close of business today, when that’s all over. But there have been long hours involved this week,” said Amy Franklin.

Franklin and her husband own Cheesecake Ninja in Jackson. They have been preparing for Thanksgiving since last year.
