LOCKPORT, N.Y. — An inmate at the Niagara County Jail faces new charges after he allegedly attacked a corrections officer.

The Niagara County Sheriff's Office said officers were trying to get 32-year-old Ryan Zachary out of his cell for an inspection on Tuesday when he lunged at an officer, striking him in the head with a closed fist.

The officer was treated for injuries at a local medical facility and has been released.

Zachary was charged with one felony count of assault of a correctional officer and was scheduled to appear Wednesday in Niagara County Court. He also has a court date scheduled for Jan. 27, 2026, according to a search of the New York State electric court filing system .
