GADSDEN, Ala. —

Alabama's tallest Christmas tree is now shining brightly in Gadsden.

Folks gathered Wednesday to see the tree lighting ceremony at Riverside Park in Gadsden, marking the start of the city's holiday celebrations.

City leaders say the goal is to make Gadsden a top Christmas destination, and this giant 78-foot tree is now the centerpiece of the celebration.

The lighting celebration also kicks off "Christmas on the Coosa", which runs through the season along with "Christmas at the Falls", which is another major holiday draw for the city.
