Another freighter has run aground in the Detroit River near downtown.
The 629-foot Canadian vessel Robert S. Pierson, which is hauling some 18,000 tons of stone, is believed to have gotten stuck in the river offshore of the William G. Milliken State Park on late Wednesday night, Nov. 26, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
Petty Officer Omar Faba said the Coast Guard's Detroit sector received a report about the stuck freighter at 1:17 a.m.
Tugboats from Ohio and Minnesota were enroute to assist the vessel as of Thursday morning, Nov. 27, he said. Information on the origin and intended destination of the freighter were not immediately available.
“Currently there have been no reports of injuries, pollution or impact to vessel traffic," Faba said.
