COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster announced Wednesday evening that members of the South Carolina National Guard would be returning to the nation’s capital.
McMaster announced on X that next week, more than 300 National Guard members would be returning to DC to relieve Georgia guard members who took their place two months ago.
The announcement comes after two National Guard members from West Virginia were shot in DC earlier Wednesday.
Following the shooting, the Trump administration said that an additional 500 National Guard members would be called to DC.
McMaster said in his statement that their return was scheduled before the shooting took place.
