A school was sent into lockdown after a teenage boy "made verbal threats to staff" near the site.

Pupils at Outwood Academy in Ormesby, Middlesbrough, were kept indoors following an incident on Thursday (November 26) afternoon.

Cleveland Police said it was called at around 2.40pm to reports of a teenager making threats near the school and possibly in breach of bail conditions.

Officers say he left the scene soon after they arrived.

Outwood Academy confirmed to The Northern Echo that pupils were placed in lockdown.

"Officers are currently on scene at the school and are conducting an area search", a force spokesperson said.
