A 63-year-old Puslinch man was warned not to drive by a Guelph business manager, but not taking his advice produced an impaired driving charge.

Guelph police said the incident occurred on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., when the man was trying to buy alcohol at a business near Gordon Street and Clair Road, but staff refused to allow the purchase because he appeared intoxicated. The manager told the man if he drove, he would call police.

Police said the man left in his pickup truck and officers found him driving on Arkell Road and pulled him over.

The driver was unsteady on his feet, officers said, and showing signs of impairment. He was arrested and taken to the police station, where tests revealed he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.
