Premier Doug Ford says Ontario is close to a deal with Prime Minister Mark Carney that will expedite development in the Ring of Fire region by eliminating federal duplication of approvals.

“I think they’re on side,” Ford said, “But let’s stay tuned for an announcement the PM and I will be doing together in a little while. It’s basically one window, one project, one process. He understands it. We have to move. We have to move as quickly as possible.”

Ford has pushed for limits to Ottawa’s Impact Assessment Act, which studies the effects of a project on the environment, economy and social issues. An announcement with Carney could come before the end of the year.
