MADISON (WKOW) — Hundreds of volunteers gathered at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on Thursday to provide a free Thanksgiving meal for the community.

The event, held on Raymond Road, featured traditional Thanksgiving dishes such as turkey, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie.

Organizers expressed a preference for the sit-down meal over a drive-thru option.

"Having people actually come and sit down together and eat together, especially for people who don't have a place to go, this is a great opportunity to form that community," said the Rev. Dara Schuller-Hanson. "Keep coming together so that we might know each other better."

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church anticipated serving about 500 people. The church has been hosting this meal for 31 years.
