LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Members of the Laredo Fine Arts and Culture Commission are questioning the criteria for removing political murals after the city recently removed a street mural following an order from Gov. Greg Abbott.
The City of Laredo recently removed a street mural that read “Defund the Wall” due to Abbott’s order. The governor’s order calls for the removal of political murals and non-standard street markings.
Commission members are asking what exactly makes a mural “political” or “distracting.” They are considering consulting an attorney for clarification.
“As far as what I read through of what they sent that was coming down from the governor, it put anything that’s considered distracting. So, it didn’t really narrow down specifically what is considered distracting,” said Van
