LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Trump administration’s proposal to remove nursing from the list of professional degrees is drawing pushback — even from officials at home.
The change is tied to the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill,’ which created new limits on graduate borrowing. If adopted, students in programs such as nursing would face lower loan caps because those degrees would no longer qualify as professional.
The administration says the caps will help rein in tuition, but critics question whether it has the authority to impose them. The limits would take effect next July if finalized.
