For more than 20 years, Celebration Tabernacle Church in North Portland has made sure no one in the community faces Thanksgiving without a warm meal.

On Thursday, the non-denominational church in the Kenton neighborhood continued that goal with its annual PROPER Thanksgiving Feast-ival, serving hundreds with the help of dozens of volunteers.

PROPER — short for People Reaching Other People Expecting Restoration — is the church’s community outreach arm. The group typically hosts a large sit-down Thanksgiving banquet with live music and entertainment inside Celebration Tabernacle’s sanctuary.

But after a fire outside the church last summer, the organization shifted to providing to-go meals from Po’Shines Cafe De La Soul , the soul food restaurant the church owns next door.
