ROCKFORD, Ill. (WREX) — Thanksgiving celebrations took place in Rockford Thursday as the Court Street United Methodist Church continued their annual tradition.
Dozens of volunteers came together to hand out meals to community members. Several people gathered outside the church, with crowds stretching around the block.
This year, organizers said they were expecting larger crowds than recent ones as they understand the need is continuing to grow.
"We want to help them out like that, and we also discovered early on that there could be a possible turkey shortage, so I had most of my turkey breast bought by the first of November," Sue Cram, the chairman of the Thanksgiving dinner for the church said.
