The driver who fled the scene after a U-Haul van crashed into a tree on Interstate 95 in central Maine, killing a passenger and sparking a search that temporarily shut the highway earlier this week, was taken into custody on Thanksgiving.
Tyler Hewitt, of Presque Isle, was arrested Thursday afternoon after Clinton police responded to a call of a suspicious person walking on Hill Road, according to Maine State Police, who said responding officers canvassed the area and located the 31-year-old after he emerged from the woods near I-95.
