The report by the National Women’s Council (NWC) warns that a shortage of housing in Ireland is contributing to “crisis levels of violence against women”.
The report, which is being launched today, says safe and gender-specific housing solutions are a vital component in the fight to end gender-based violence.
It finds an inextricable link between homelessness and domestic, sexual and gender-based violence (DSGBV) and calls on authorities to recognise and act on this information.
The report also warns that both women and children are “trapped in a state of perpetual vulnerability”.
The report comes after a NWC conference on DSGBV held in September, with the findings and recommendations regarding policy largely influenced by the experiences of survivors.
