PHOENIX (AZFamily) — November is National Adoption Month, and with nearly half a million children in foster care across the country, the month offers an opportunity to reflect on the importance of adoption and the challenges that come with it.

In Arizona, it can take families years to get through the process. But sometimes things fall into place unexpectedly.

The Ordonez family adopted their 7-year-old son Axton in 2020. Andrea, David and Alex Ordonez said he was a perfect fit.

“You know, dad has to have a couple sons,” Ordonez said.

Unexpected call leads to second adoption

The family received an unexpected call nearly two years ago from Axton’s biological family asking if they would take in his biological brother.
