The first of a number of "life-changing" homes have arrived at Rutherglen's Homeless Village , Harriet Gardens, ahead of it opening in 2026. The village was unanimously approved by councillors last year and will be built on the former Westfield Saw Mills site and feature 15 modular nest houses.
It will include support for the people living there to help them get out of the homelessness cycle, including therapeutic support and areas for social connection. As well as this they also have shared cooking spaces and spaces for group activities.
Day-to-day running of the village will be supported by financial contributions from South Lanarkshire Council and Social Bite and managed by the Salvation Army, who will deliver specialist, round-the-clock support.
