Union members disrupted Glasgow City Council’s State of the City Economy conference today to protest underinvestment in the city’s communities and shouted "shame" at council leader Susan Aiken. Members of Living Rent tenants’ and community union took part in the peaceful action as part of an ongoing campaign to demand the council invest revenue from its 5% tourist tax into public services rather than for tourism and marketing.
Around 40 members walked into the conference in the Old Fruitmarket during Aitken’s welcome speech. The conference was attended by tourism industry leaders and politicians including First Minister John Swinney.
