SPRINGFIELD, Ore. — It seems that the majority of Springfield residents believe the late-night fire in the 3900 block of River Road on Wednesday was caused by someone cooking methamphetamine.
Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a report of a fire that occurred after an explosion in the Santa Clara neighborhood, shortly before midnight.
On their arrival at the scene, firefighters found a badly damaged shop and a fire raging at tree-line level.
They quickly brought the flames under control and located a seriously injured resident, suffering from severe burns.
A short while later, a second victim was found at an apartment in the 100 block of Santa Clara Avenue. It is this fact that sparked a number of residents to speculate that the fire was caused by people cooking meth.
