Liverpool should retain the bulk of any tourist tax for the wider city region senior leaders have suggested. It was announced earlier this week that Metro Mayors like Steve Rotheram will be given powers to introduce an overnight accommodation levy.
It is thought a tax on hotel stays could bring in around £17m to the city region each year. Currently, Liverpool’s Accommodation BID implements a £2 overnight charge within its area with any wider levy likely to be implemented after that expires in 2027.
