Scotland now has 33 new towns compared to a decade ago, research has revealed. There are now more than 500 towns across the country, with many growing.
On Thursday, November 27, Scotland's Towns Partnership shared the latest version of its Understanding Scottish Places (USP)—a hub that shares insights into the dynamics of Scotland’s towns. The updated USP website reveals that there has been a net gain of 30 towns across Scotland, with the country now home to 509 places that have a population of more than 1,000.
According to the experts, Aberdeenshire has the highest number of new towns with five. These are Longside, Rothienorman, Drumoak, Methlick and Tarves.
Fife was found to be the area of Scotland with the second-highest number of new towns
