JACKSON COUNTY, MI — When people think of Scalawags Whitefish & Chips in Mackinaw City, they likely think about its whitefish, tartar sauce, whitefish chowder, hushpuppies and Northern Michigan fish camp feel.

But this food destination is also known for serving up great chicken tenders. Mindy Ozenberger, who is opening a Jackson franchise with her son Taylor Wager, said everything is made from scratch and cooked to order, including the chicken.

“Our chicken is hand-cut, breaded,” Ozenberger said. “Our chicken tenders are delicious.”

Scalawags Whitefish & Chips Owner Tyler Brown said chicken restaurant chains are blowing up across the country, and the chicken tenders served at Scalawags are just as good.
