On one of the busiest shopping days of the year, Chicago's famous Christkindlmarket in Daley Plaza will address newly imposed capacity measures "for crowd management and safety," saying they pose an "existential threat" to future of the popular holiday event.

The update comes after a Chicago Tribune report from Nov. 25 said the City of Chicago recently placed new crowd restrictions on the event for 2025, with capacity limited to about 1,000 people at a time compared to 5,000 visitors on a typical day.

The City of Chicago did not immediately respond to NBC Chicago's request for comment.
