The family of a 13-year-old boy killed in Highland Park this week is mourning the loss of the youngest in their family — a boy whose mother said always put others before himself.

Avontea Henry, 13, was shot around 4 p.m. Tuesday outside a Family Dollar in Highland Park.

Highland Park Police and Michigan State Police are investigating the homicide. Neither responded for comment.
