STARKVILLE, Miss. (WLBT) - The Golden Egg trophy is staying in Oxford.
In what could be Lane Kiffin’s final Egg Bowl at the helm of the Ole Miss football program, it was the number seven-ranked Rebels that topped Mississippi State to clinch a berth to the program’s first-ever College Football Playoff.
It is the fifth Egg Bowl win in the last six years for Ole Miss.
Ole Miss started the rivalry matchup hot right out of the gate with a Kewan Lacy 31-yard rushing touchdown to put the Rebels up 7-0 in just under two minutes for his 20th touchdown of the season.
The Bulldogs immediately responded with a rushing touchdown of their own, with freshman QB Kamario Taylor getting the start and scoring a 22-yard touchdown to tie the game.
