WASHINGTON — Outrage from Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) on Saturday over President Donald Trump's vow to pardon the former president of Honduras, who is currently serving out a 45-year prison sentence in West Virginia for drug trafficking and weapons charges.
Juan Orlando Hernandez served as the president of the Central American country, which borders El Salvador and Guatemala, from 2014 until 2022. Less than a month after Hernandez left office, he surrendered to authorities and was extradited to the United States to stand trial. In March 2024 he was convicted on three counts of drug trafficking and weapons conspiracy and later sentenced to 45 years in prison.
