INDIANAPOLIS – The season season-opening defensive battle turned into a shootout in the state finals rematch Saturday, but in the end it was defense that won the day for Bishop Dwenger.
Carter Zent intercepted Roncalli quarterback Collin Ash in the end zone off a tipped pass by George Hackman on the final play of the Class 4A championship, sealing a 36-29 Saints victory at Lucas Oil Stadium.
It is the sixth state championship for the Saints (13-2), and the first since 2018, when Bishop Dwenger needed four overtimes to beat Evansville Central.
